Step 1. Take out the hard drive where you want to keep your old programs and files from your new computer and connect it to your old PC. Step 2. Step 3. In the new window, you will be given two options. In today's case, we take "App Mover" as an example. Step 4. In the new window, you will see all disks, and every partition will also be displayed. Select one partition that you want to move applications from and click "Next". Step 5. Choose the applications you want to move and select new drive as the target location, then click "Move". Warning: To ensure the apps run properly on the new place after transferring, please don't move or delete files by yourself in the source and target directories. Just leave it all to the software. One amazing feature of AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional is that it is available to migrate OS to a new computer.
So you can quickly get used to the new working environment after getting a new PC. Take out the system disk from the new PC, connect it to your original computer and ensure it can be detected. Open AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional. Then, click "Migrate OS to SSD" in the left panel. Choose an unallocated space on your target disk as the target location. If there is no unallocated space, you can check "I want to delete all partitions on the disk 2 to migrate system to the disk" and then click "Next". There are many new features I dislike about Windows I have not been able to figure out how to get into the computer configuration to allow Microsoft accounts to be optional. I don't want to have to sign into Microsoft to use every "app" on their system. They call programs apps now, in order to appear modern, but it's the same old Microsoft, making their systems as un-user friendly as possible. Had I known I would have this nightmare, I just would have switched to Apple.
BTW, I actually paid money and bought the Office program. That's awful, too. You can't sign in, when you do, you land in some endless loop of entering the product code, it not validating, your having to call customer support, being on hold -- it is just awful. Just start making install disks again, Microsoft. You make your customers' lives nightmares. No, you made it a nightmare because you don't know how to backup and restore. Because of where I live, the online transfer would have taken days. I STILL had two other computers that worked, but I needed this info. My real mistake was sharing my frustration. We expect experts like Microsoft to make our lives easier, not harder. I will back up more on a USB flash drive and external hard drive from now on and buy Apple next time. But it was Win 8 that sent them to Apple. I had a win 8 ASUS laptop and I upgraded it to Win 7… yes you read it right.
Going from Win 8 to win 7 IS AN UPGRADE! And Win 10 is no better. What a joke this company has become. Completely disastrous GUI. Can you explain why Microsoft had to place so called Win 8 experts out in the stores like Walmart and BestBuy to assist people with Win 8? I made the same mistake. I purchased a new Windows 10 computer expecting to use Easy Transfer from my Windows 7 computer that would transfer my outlook files and settings etc like it did from Windows XP to Win 7. If your old PC is 64 bit you can easily move your data to your new one with the external drive.
Connect the external drive to your new Windows 10 PC. Run " Migwiz. Exe " from the " Migwiz " folder you copied from the Windows 7 PC and continue with the Easy Transfer Wizard. Enjoy Windows I have tested this procedure on a Bit Windows 10 PC copying data from an old Vista Bit PC and a Windows 7 PC 32 and Bit to a Windows 8 PC Bit with success. The new Windows Edge browser will ask you if you want to import your Favorites from Internet Explorer. Notes: A Windows Easy Transfer's "Migwiz" folder taken from a Bit PC will not run on a Bit PC and vice-versa. However, the Bit version will accept the Easy Transfer file created from a Bit version. Like you, I had all my data backed up via Easy Transfer. What a waste.
Microsoft made transfer of my data to Windows 10 a NIGHTMARE. Microsoft ought to put in their advertising that there is practically no way to transfer your data -- despite having a computer with Windows 7 and Windows 8. I ended up buying Zinstall, which works very well. If you have an Ethernet LAN cable and can hook it up to your Windows 7 computer, it will transfer everything, including programs, within about two hours. Of course, it costs money, but it ends the Microsoft misery. It worked great. This is a poor response. This response does not specify whether or not the suggested solution applies to user data or user settings as well.
If it applies to both, it does not specify which folders to copy, as there could be thousands of folders to copy, and some are system folders if they deal with user settings.
